Border /Maremma

I have one also. They apparently grow a bit larger than a border collie.A full-bred Maremma is actually a large dog .You will have a medium-large dog, most likely. I have not seen mine swim yet.Hopefully that is a like trait. Good luck with that awesome pup!

I have two of them, still puppies, who seem to be fine with swimming.Just consider that if the flock they are tending needs to ford a stream or river, these dogs will go with them. You are that flock.....happy swimming!

Do you have any photos you could post? We have a dog that is definitely part border collie and I suspect the "other" half is Maremma (because the cattle farmers up the road have Maremmas). She is extremely intelligent, very good with all humans, tends to "herd" anything she can find BUT looks like she was put together by a committee! Border collie head and colouring but round as a barrel, huge feet and a coat that is long and wavy/curly and probably 55 pounds. Wouldn't trade her for any purebred out there! She's spoiled rotten by my husband but hasn't let it go to her head.

maremma/border collie cross

I have a bordercollie crossed with a Maremma and He is a big dog. about the size of a Pyrennese. He sheds like the dickens, twice a year, spring and fall
I stand 5'2" and his head is at my hips about, his temperament is pretty good around people he knows but not very freindly to people he doesnt. He loves to run, and not too keen on water but will run through pretty fast. His speed is phenomenal, when he comes running from behind he sounds like a horse galloping.
