I have a British passport but am not a citizen?

I was born in Canada. My mum was born in England so she got me a British passport. I want to move to England (or at least live there for a few months). Is having the passport enough or do I need to look into visas or becoming a citizen?

Also, at the airport would I go into the customs line for residents or the regular travelers line?
