I have a newsgroup with 1000 members, what is the best way to upgrade to a blog or

a web site and make money? Built a local newsgroup to help communicate among people who move into the city as expatriates and have 1000 members now. I am planning to upgrade to a blog or a web site where I can organize events, help members interact, provide helpful information and of course make money from ads. Anysuggestions?
 
I would use some sort of CMS to build an online community with Forums and articles etc. If you could find some way of turning the newsgroup posting into forum threads that would be great. Or you could just ask your users to start posting in the forum instead of the newsgroup.
DONT just delete the newsgroup.
Throw adsense/yahooAds on the forum/articles and profit.
