I have a pay and talk plan with telus. I can't seem to get texting on it.

Any ideas? Is it the plan? I have a Samsung phone, but a telus plan. I tried to get texting from telus but the man at the desk just gave me a phone number to call and that didn't work. I'd like to get unlimited texting, how much is that?
