ive been told that the issue with my truck is that since there is no spark coming from the spark plug wires its the ignition coil that is the culprit. i borrowed a vehicle scanner from a friend of mine and we hooked it up to the vehicle, and the result is that the scanner said "no codes received" so he went to another feature on his scanner that displayed partcial names with numbers next to them. if the ignition coil is the culprit like i suspect how do i tell on the scanner that the ignition coil is faulty and causing the problem....please help cause im tired of waking up at 530 am for the bus everyday to go to school.....
this all started when my water pump went out on the freeway on my way home from school...within 2 days i replaced the water pump and the serpentine belt on the vehicle...could this be somehow related to current problem or is this the case of wear and tear

Just change the sparkplug wires and the ignition coil. Its a 97, and probably past due anyways. I'ts really not worth the time seeing if a 15 year old wear n tear part is still good, and if you replace it at least you have another thing that you KNOW for sure is not the culprit.
