Many viruses today try to interfere with the downloading of windows security updates and the installation of antivirus and antimalware software. They interfere with the internet connection. They can block updates, thus making the antimalware or antivirus software almost usless. Some of the viruses are so sophisticated that they can render the new software ineffective during the download and installation process, before you ever get a chance to run the first scan. Remote programs and intruders can manipulate and control your computer so that nothing works the way it is supposed to work, and it makes the virus or malicious software very difficult to remove. More malware can download onto your computer while you are running scans to remove it!

You need to run your computer in the "safe mode with networking" to update your software and remove the problem.

Turn your computer off, then re-start. As soon as you turn it back on, hit the F8 key a few times. You will come to a menu that gives you several start up options,. Choose "Safe Mode with networking".

Go to http://antivirus-firewall-software.tech.officelive.com/tutorialone.aspx to download some good free software (a-squared) with instructions on how to use it to start cleaning malware and viruses from your computer.

We recommend the following programs for virus removal and protection:

(1) Avast, (2) Kapersky, and (3) Avira. Avast and Avira have the free versions, Kapersky does not. All of these have been tested, evaluated, and rated by AV Comparatives, and they are from 97% to over 99% effective for virus removal.

We recommend these programs for malware, spyware, and adware problems:

(1) SuperAntiSpyware, (2) Spyware Doctor, (3) Ad Aware, with (4) Spybot as an optional scanner. Spyware Warriors has tested and rated these and they are among their recommended programs. All of them come in a free version, or a paid, upgrade version. Another excellent antimalware program is A-Squared, from EMSI Software.

We recommend using an antivirus program in combination with an antispyware program for the best protection possible.

A list of some of the best combinations and how to use them is at: http://antivirus-firewall-software.tech.officelive.com/list.aspx

There is another website that shows you how to block spyware, malware, and viruses from your computer at http://spyware-blockers.tech.officelive.com/default.aspx

Both of these websites are hosted by Microsoft and they are safe. Tech support is available if you need help.
