Okay well I was on limewire and i was trying to delete sharing files for my music but i accidently deleted windows files and when i went back onto windows xp a lot of components were missing, for example my desktop looked very poor quality and i couldn't access my programs. I've tried going to last good configuration but it doesn't work. Should I reinstall the windows xp cd into my computer or just reboot the whole thing?

Just run a repair install of Windows. It'll repair the files which are missing, and you won't lost any other files you need.To run a repair install, insert your Windows XP disk into the CD-Drive. Now restart your system, once at boot-up press "F11" and click "CD/DVD" or "Boot from CD..." anything similar to that.Once there, and it's fully loaded, you'll have a "Windows Set-up Menu". Press "Install Windows", then press "F8" for agree. Once there, hover over your current partition and select "Repair" by pressing "R".

actually if you deleted actual windows files, then before going through the hour + of reinstalling windows has a utility built in since windows 98 that will check for this, however in XP you must do it at the command prompt whereas with 98/me you could do it from run dialog box. The utility is called system file checker. I'm not saying that it will solve the problem, however it is better than waiting an hour for a re-install.go to command prompt and type:sfc /scannowWindiws will prompt you for the rest, if it does not have one of the windows files it will prompt you for the disk and extract the file from your XP disk.Hope this helps
