I Have downloaded some .Avi files, DivX says i need to download a directshow...

...decoder so i can get the sound? The video files i have downloaded have no sound when played and the codecs i use all say that i need a directshow decoder could someones please help

Download this, its the K-Lite Codec Pack, it has everything you need to play the video, it has the direct show decoder, the codecs to play most if not all videos and small but powerful media player (quick download and install).
