I believe the key has a chip inside that needs to be programmed, making it expensive and difficult to make. I've also heard, in order to get a new key, the computer in the car itself has to be reprogrammed. I had an idea to get a remote start installed, as I'm in Alaska and will need it anyway, and that way I could avoid the cost and need of a key.
