i just got a new violin and every time i try to tune, the bridge pops out, why...

...is this? when i first started tuning it, appartenlyi was tuning it an octave too low, when i tune it an octave higher, the bridge pops out, why does this keep happening? is it broken?
i dont mean if the bridge itself is broken but if some thing isnt working right
