i need help with my dish network reciever...?

ok my dad has the tv2 in the living room and for some wierd reason the remote eats batteries and half the time wont woork... its a brand new remote, the receiver is a dish 322 and the remote adress is fine.... could it have something to do with my wireless stuff is my room or is it just to far away... its about 30 feet away.. plz help my dad is getting madder by the second...
 
Is he pointing it at the tv instead of the receiver? My receiver is not under the tv and I forget sometimes and wonder why it's not working. I have the 500 and it has a little antenna on it.
