...the stink and the reminder? I smoked heavily for decades and am convinced my health will suffer for it. On May 16 of this year I threw away my cigarettes and have not smoked in over 8 months now. Unfortunately, my fiance "somewhat" wanted to quit too as the cost of cigarettes was breaking us. When it came down to it though, he made efforts and would even quit for a month or so, only to pick up slim cigars and smoke them like cigarettes in an effort to save the heavy cost and smoke without having to really admit it is the same as smoking cigarettes if not worse. His moods when trying to quit were horrific, angry. We went to Mexico and several nights of the trip were ruined due to his cigarette cravings until he finally started an argument with me as an excuse to start up again. Now he claims he smokes during the daytime when his job gives him stress. He paints houses and is his own boss with no high stress. The problems are this: I do not want to be a reformed smoker nag. But he comes home stinking of cigarettes and it is hard on me not to just give up and pick up smoking again though my health can really suffer for it since I smoked far longer than him. In addition, we cannot afford it and I worry his health will suffer too. He now begrudgingly says he is going to quit but he has been saying that for eight months. What should I do when I did something positive for myself and his lack of quitting is causing me distress? What is the right thing to do?
