I read a manga when I was little and I'm trying to find the name of it.?

It involved Aliens/Demons from the moon( I think) during WW2. The manga is in current time/future and involves mechas. The main character is a boy that is sent to an academy to pilot a mecha. He befriends a girl there. That's all I remember because I just read the first volume
 
Sounds like Ghost-07 except that he befriends another guy instead of a girl in Ghost-07.
 
I'm not sure. But could this be the manga that you read? Google Neon Genesis Evangelion.
