bypass the fuse? I assume that the fuse is just there as an extra safety precaution, but thought i'd double check. I want to wire it to a switch in my wall but to do so I have to chop off the plug (please keep in mind that wiring an outlet to the switch and plugging the rope light into the outlet is NOT an option). Is the fuse just extra protection, or does it serve some other purpose? Has anyone actually direct wired a rope light by chopping off the plug/fuse assembly?

I guess the main question is, is this safe??

Hey, I've done it to mine, I had the same issue you had. I wanted to put some 90's on the end of the wire as well. Anyway, from what I gather, it's there more for outdoor use... incase something or someone accidently cuts/breaks the tube. If you're going to be using it outside, I would suggest not doing it. If it's for inside, somewhere where it won't be touched or kicked, and you won't be far away just incase something does happen, then I wouldn't be too worried about it.

I'm not an electrician by any means... but I do understand how these things work, so use your judgement.
