and I got out to check it and it was leaking from top of the radaitor hose. It was doindg fine on the freeway. And now I start the car it stay on for a mintue then it cut off then, I try to start it right back up and it cut right back off. what could be the problem? could it just be it needs to cool off? I have a 1989 ford thunderbird 3.8 v6

sounds like it is severly overheated, You should let it cool completely and then repair the hose, . do not drive the vehicle when it is overheating as your engine is equipt with aluminum cylinder heads and head gasket faluire rate is high on the 3.8 l engines

It sounds like your upper radiator hose is leaking and it needs to be replaced. its a fairly easy job you should be able to chang it yourself.Good luck
