Alright I'm kind of a first timer in keeping fish, and I was thinking about keeping platies, since they seem to be a hardy fish. I understand that they are a schooling fish, and I know that they can get to be about 2 inches long. A lot of online resources are saying to keep at least a school of 5 in the tank, but my only problem is this: I can only keep a 10 gallon tank, and if I have 5 platies in there, it's kind of pushing it, since u multiply the length of the each fish with the amount of fish, which 2 inch length and 5 fish would get me 10. I don't wanna suffocate the fish, soo I'm wondering this: First, would the 10 gallon be okay, and second, if maybe I should try a different fish, and which types of fish would do good in a 10 gallon tank. Any Information would be helpful. Thanks!
