Ichiro Suzuki, the superstar outfielder for the Seattle Mariners, has been traded to the New York Yankees. In New York, Ichiro will play both left field and right field — though likely on a platoon basis. At 38 years old, he’s not nearly as good as he used to be, but Ichiro is still a big name and he may be able to turn back the clock now that he has a legit chance at his first World Series ring.
Said Ichiro: “I’m going from a team having the most losses to a team with the most wins, so it’s been hard to maintain my excitement.”
The Yankees are going to welcome Ichiro with open arms.
Said Joe Girardi, the manager of the Yankees: “We’re very excited to have him. We feel that he brings a speed element, a tremendous hitter.”
As for the Mariners, this trade allows them to save money and also get back a pair of minor league pitchers.
