if a dog has heart worms when having puppies, will the puppies have them too?

I'm getting ready to get a puppy & the owners told me the mother has had heart worms, but very mild case. So mild the vet treated her only with heart guard. Will her puppies have heart worms as well. I've never heard of only treating with heart guard as 1 of my dogs did have heart worms & the expensive was in the thousands, but was worth it for my dog. I just don't want to go through this again. Thanks for any insight
