...of therapeutic techinique is used? I know it will involve a cognitive behavioral therapist. but what's the name of a method (ex. client-centered therapy) would be used to help them?
I've heard some good things about exposure therapy. They take small steps in exposing the person to their specific phobia in an attempt to desensitize their body's "fight or flight" responses and decrease their anxiety. An example that helped me understand the treatment was a person who had a specific phobia of vomit. They started by showing the person pictures of a guy who looked like he was going to vomit, then gradually moved up to pictures of him vomiting, then pictures of vomit and so on until the persons fear of vomit was at a controllable level.
