If GM, Ford, and Chrysler collapsed what percent of GDP would go down?

Additionally, how much would the US lose in tax revenue?

Could the US economy survive?
 
"Motor vehicles, bodies and trailers, and parts" industry was 0.7% of GDP in 2007, and falling.

Detroit automakers are probably only half of that given that there are plenty of Toyota and Toshiba plants in the US, and industry also includes makers of buses and full-size trucks.

Tax revenue would not suffer much - those companies had no profits for a while.
