If I get another iPad/iPod can I get the same apps for both without paying for each?

I am thinking about getting another iPad for my family because we all want to use the one we have at the same time. I have a few apps that I bought that I want on both, would I have to re buy it?
 
I have an iPod touch and recenly brought a iPad and I was able to sync apps from iPod to iPad without having to repurchase, although a lot of the apps have been remade for iPad And if you want to upgrade to them you will have to pay.
 
Once you purchase an app from the Apple store it becomes yours and you are able to sync it to multiple Apple devices.

Just log in to the Apple store using iTunes with the same account that you purchased the apps orginally.

Plug in your iPad to your PC and sync up.

Apps transferred.
