if i have a quick messaging phone and unlmtd. plan, can i pop my SIM card

into a smartphone? i have a sharp fx quick messaging phone for at&t with unlimited data($10 plan). if i have a smartphone givin to me(android pphone or iphone...wtvr), can i put my SIM card in it and get unlimited data and a cheaper messaging phone plan?

No. Those plans are not compatible with smartphones. If you put your SIM card in, it will automatically add one of the smartphone data plans (i think it adds the $15 one). There is no more unlimited data on ATT, so you only get 200 MB with that plan. But at least you're only paying $5 more vs your old plan

Yes, as long as it uses the GSM North American standard that AT&T operates on. If the phone was purchased unlocked or from AT&T, then the device will automatically function properly. If it was purchased T-Mobile, then you'll need unlock the smartphone before you use it with AT&T, but even then the phone will only operate over AT&T's slower Edge network (not 3G). If the phone was purchased from Verizon, Sprint, or any other American carrier, the phone will not accept a sim card.
