...dumped me, can he take the truck? I live in a different state than he does. He sent me several gifts and 3 different times he sent me money, that he offered to help me out. One of the times he sent me $1800 for bills, the next time he sent me $1800 and I bought a truck with it. A month later, he dumped me and said "You deserve someone better than me" all because my laptop broke and he said he would get me a new one and then after looking at his cash couldn't buy it for me... SO HE DUMPED ME! Well, my question is, now that I have moved on, he wants to take the truck back since his money paid for it. Can he legally do this. We were in a relationship and I never 'borrowed' money from him, he gave it to me.
Only my name is on the truck. I never said I was paying him back anything because it wasn't a loan, I actually found a text from him, telling me the truck was a gift.

I would still be dating him, but he dumped me. ACTUALLY, he dumped me, then I took him back, then he dumped me again, then I took him back... then he dumped me again and I didn't take him back, I moved on. So now he is hurt.

Did he really say it was a GIFT or that he'll LEND you the money? And who's name is on the title? That's who owns it.

I feel bad for that guy.. what an idiot for lending you so much money..

If the truck is in your name, it is your truck. That simple. He could try to sue you claiming that you had a quasi-contract, or verbal agreement that he loaned you money. But even IF he were to win a lawsuit, he would only get a judgment for whatever was deemed owed back. However, it is very difficult to prove that you loaned someone cash. Bottom line is that he gave you money when you were together, you used the money to do as you pleased. Now that you are no longer together he is trying to recover some of the money. He has little chance of getting anything. Now if his name is on the truck, he may have a bit more of a claim.

What name is on the title?

THAT'S who owns the truck, if it is yours, then he has no say.
