If You Only Have The DivX Codec But Not The DivX Player Can You Still Play AVI Files?

On your Windows Media Player?

Say I install the whole DivX package, but then I uninstall the player but not the codec. Will AVI files still work?

Because my Windows Media Player doesn't play AVI files by itself. =(
