If your religion keeps you from doing "evil" deeds, does that mean... ?
That athiests and - for the sake of argument - those who follow a belief that you deem lesser and therefore not worthy to be a religion (you know like Ghandi, the current Dalai Lama, ... ) are in every aspect better people than you, because they have no - or no worthy - religion to keep them from doing "evil" deeds, yet they simply don't do them? Just wondering. Since I'm a buddhist (which I suppose could be considered atheist, because there isn't a god involved) and I don't think supporting multiple charitable causes actively and financially and try and do whatever I can for the local needy, could be considered very "evil". And no, I don't kill kittens. In fact, out of risk of contracting toxoplasmosis, I can't even come anywhere near kittens... and raw meat and vegetables... George A - that's one out of many examples. Plus you left out the fact that IF he wants to do that; he's currently - and for 50 years already - exiled from the "people's republic" of China, this includes Tibet. He's currently in Nepal, so it'll be kind of hard trying to make Tibet into a theocracy. SELAH! Then exactly WHAT are the 10 COMMANDMENTS and why would you have to keep to them in order to save your place in heaven? ... or any place of your choice. I'll admit I don't know very much about the quran, so if anyone is willing to tell me if it contains any moral guidelines similar to the christian 10 commandments? ... or is it the 15 commandments now? "Thou shalt not curse and swear at other drivers" Funny, how so many of the ones who feel approached by this question, now deny one of the sentences that have been most said to atheists concerning moral issues; "Athiests; you have no laws keeping you from murdering, killing etc. Who will stop you from doing it?" Isn't it ironic? Shane, agree with everything apart from the "dude" bit... kinda hard being a dude and pregnant. hahaha - I wish more people of every faith thought like you. It really doesn't matter which belief you have, be it in a god, multiple gods or no god at all. Your thought that God would judge people with an open and honest heart makes you a better person already than those who can't help but force others to their own belief.
