I'm 16 and I want to start some form of martial arts. I do waterpolo and swimming so I'm physically fit. I don't know which martial arts I should try or even where to go to try to get lessons. Any tips on how to start learning would be welcomed.

Also I'm kind of thinking of karate because that's the most famous one but if anyone has any suggestions I'll be glad to hear it. Thank you.

my boyfriend does MMA, Guerrilla Jui Jitsu and has even practiced Brazillian Jui Jitsu. Quite honestly, I did Karate when i was a kid and well...im pretty embarrassed I did. ha! To me, karate is kind of more child's play. If you want to REALLY learn how to defend yourself and even just learn how to appreciate a different kind of art form, I suggest Brazillian Jui Jitsu. Heck or even kickboxing. I did that for a while and absolutely loved it. Anyways, Karate just seems childish to me. If you wanna find a place to train, search for a local Brazillian Jui Jitsu or Guerrilla Jui Jitsu "gym". I trained at LA Boxing for a while in Fresno and San Diego, CA but I'm not sure where you reside.
