I'm looking into buying a Mitsubishi Galant 1999 v6 gtz from an individual. The guy wants 2000 for it. i test drove it yesterday and it is a really solid good car, the engine seems really strong. Of course for 2 grand it's not perfect, the clear coat is a little rough. There are two major things wrong, one is that the speedometer does not work (which doing a little research I've found is not that expensive a problem to fix and is fairly common on this year Galant), and the compressor on the A/C does not work, the guy said it does not catch right now, but he has a new compressor for it already that I would just have to have installed by my mechanic. The engine was pretty dirty, the guy lives out in the country off a dirt road, and there was a little bit of oil wetness underneath when I went under to look at things. I'm not a car expert by any means, I know this is a high performance car, that is generally well rated. I also know that buying anything this old, and this cheap is a roll of the dice. I know that some work is going to have to go into this car. It has what he said was a rebuilt engine, that has around 70,000 miles on it. I took it on on the freeway and did 80 mph in it with no problem, accelerated fast and smooth, and seems to drive great. Just wondering if there are any Mitsubishi owners/buffs out there who might have some advice or input. If you don't know anything about cars, or are just going to tell me to buy a more expensive car or be silly please don't bother responding.
