iMac will read blank CD-ROMs but not blank DVD-ROMS?

I am putting some stuff on blank discs and i had put a backup of some of my favorite stuff on to blank CDs, and everything works fine, but when i put in a blank single-layer single-sided DVD-ROM, It hangs out in the drive for a while and spits it back out

Using windows 7 via boot camp
It is a DVD RW drive
