just one style or all styles? I mean, in an international Karate tourney, are all types of "Karate" allowed to compete? There are lots. Shotokan, Kenpo, Kyokushin, etc.
OK, what if the JKA was the organizer? Alternately, what if the WKF was the organizer?

And what are these authentic Karate systems?

It depends who the organizing body is but if it is a "Karate" tournament then it will be limted to authentic Karate systems only which there are several. The Kumite will be ran based on preset rules that are based on the core focus of Kumite study in Karate which all authentic Karate systems do teach and study. I have compete internationally many times and I prefer traditional Karate tournaments at that level because there is more honor, integrity and respect than in open tournaments or other sport aspects of martial arts.

Edit - The JKA and the WKF use very similar rules. For example they list the origional Kata that is permitted in competition so you must know the Kata on their list as they announce which kata all competitors will do in the same division right before the division begins.

The origional arts are traced back to Naha-te, Shuri-te and Tomari-te and the list is huge but it does not include Kempo/Kenpo as those are seen as eclectic systems but I have Kenpo buddies who have competed they just had to learn the proper Kata and do kumite by proper rules set by the JKA and the WKF.
