There are two prevalent themes in the NFL as we meander into autumn — passing stats are through the roof, and the injury count is crazy. Take out your insurance card, get your copay ready, and let's look at the bumps and bruises as we prepare for Week 3. And above all else, make sure you do a thorough cross-check on Sunday, just to make sure no one listed here had a setback. There are no guarantees in this game, especially when it comes to the walking wounded.

We'll do our customary injury lap by position: quarterbacks take the lead, followed by running backs, wide receivers and tight ends.

•*Tony Romo (ribs) didn't practice Friday and might come down to a game-day decision for Monday's showdown against Washington. Keep in mind the Cowboys are one day behind the normal practice cycle since they've got the MNF game."I don't think we can say anything 100 percent right now," Romo told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. "But if it's just about the pain side of it, I think we'll be good to go. I'm obviously planning mentally on going out there."

Jon Kitna is the fallback plan; say what you want about Kitna, but he's one of the better backup quarterbacks in the league. He posted a 98.7 quarterback rating in the second half of 2010.

•*Michael Vick (post concussion) has been practicing and should be fine for Sunday's game with the Giants. "I feel great, I feel ready to play," Vick said after Friday's work.

•*Cam Newton (ankle) is listed as probable and did fine Friday. Lock and load.

•*Mark Sanchez (elbow) is listed as probable for the Heidi Game at Oakland. He'll start.

•*Alex Smith (post concussion) has been practicing and looks set to go at Cincinnati.

•*Jason Campbell (foot) missed some reps this week but remains listed as probable.

•*Kerry Collins (shoulder) did fine at the end of the week and should start Sunday, despite being listed as questionable. Good luck with the Steelers.

•*The joy of the Beanie Wells owner lasted about two weeks. Wells tweaked a hamstring Thursday, had a limited session Friday, and is now considered a game-time decision for Sunday's game at Seattle. It's a late start, so make sure you have a caddy available (that's a generic term, I'm not pointing you to Williams of St. Louis). The Cardinals don't have much behind Wells on the depth chart; he's carried the ball 32 times this year, compared to three totes for LaRod Stephens-Howling and one carry for Chester Taylor.

•*Arian Foster (hamstring) was limited Thursday and Friday and is no sure thing to play at New Orleans. Even if he is in uniform, Ben Tate is set to start.

•*Peyton Hillis (illness) is listed as questionable, though the Browns don't seem worried about him missing Sunday's early match against Miami. Double-check then, but it sounds like Hillis will start.

•*Felix Jones (shoulder) took some reps Friday and looks like he'll probably go on Monday, though he's officially listed as questionable. Even if Jones is able to start, will he finish? I'd try to use someone else if you have viable alternatives.

•*The Rams can't seem to get a break with the injuries. Steven Jackson (quad) and Carnell Williams (hamstring) both had a limited Friday and will be game-time decisions on Sunday. Jerious Norwood is the No. 3 back here.

•*Knowshon Moreno (hamstring) missed some reps in each practice day and is no sure thing for Week 3. If you need a Denver back, Willis McGahee is your guy.

•*Darren McFadden (shoulder) is listed as probable, so look for him to go against the Jets. He was a full participant Friday.

•*Kenny Britt worried everyone when he tweaked his hamstring Wednesday, but he didn't miss any time Thursday or Friday. Barring a pre-game setback, he's good to go. The Titans passing game has been a nice surprise through two weeks; we all knew Britt had greatness in him, but Matt Hasselbeck and Nate Washington have played better than expected.

•*Miles Austin (hamstring) is expected to sit in Week 3, but Dez Bryant (thigh) has a shot to play. Bryant did some work on the side Friday and is currently listed as questionable.

•*Brandon Lloyd (ankle) had two full days to end the practice week and should be fine at Tennessee. Eric Decker starts opposite Lloyd, as Eddie Royal (groin) is down for 2-4 weeks.

•*Stevie Johnson (groin) did everything Thursday and Friday and is listed as probable for the showdown against New England.

•*Roddy White (thigh) is listed as probable, which means he'll be going at Tampa Bay. Good luck against cover ace Aqib Talib.

•*Calvin Johnson (ankle) knows all about playing through injuries. He's probable, so use him at Minnesota.

•*Jerome Simpson didn't practice Thursday or Friday for team reasons; a shipment of marijuana was allegedly delivered to his home this week, putting him in hot water with the police. Andre Caldwell will probably start on Sunday opposite A.J. Green.

•*Malcom Floyd (groin) has been ruled out, which pushes Patrick Crayton into the starting lineup.

•*Joshua Cribbs (groin) missed the full week of practice, so don't count on him against Miami. Mohamed Massaquoi (ankle) took some reps but he's listed as questionable too. Good news if you need one of the Cleveland tight ends, Evan Moore or Benjamin Watson. The Browns might have the weakest wide receiver group in the league.

•*Jacoby Jones (knee) took some limited reps Friday after missing the two prior days. He's questionable for the game in New Orleans and I'd look away from him if you can.

•*Darrius Heyward-Bey (knee) is listed as probable, not that you want to use him against the Jets secondary.

•*Roy Williams (groin) had a full Friday and is listed as probable for Week 3. Good luck with that, gamers. Earl Bennett (chest) will not play.

•*Sidney Rice (shoulder) had a full week of practice and should play against the Cardinals. It's a tasty matchup, but Rice has to deal with rustiness issues, not to mention the play of teammate Tarvaris Jackson.

•*Lee Evans (ankle) won't play this week, which means the Ravens need a second starting wideout opposite Anquan Boldin. Rookies Tandon Doss and Torrey Smith will get a look, along with LaQuan Williams. None of those names intrigue me, at least from a fantasy standpoint (as names go, I suppose they could be seen as intriguing; I've never met a LaQuan before).

•*The Giants lost Domenik Hixon (knee) for the year and it's looking iffy for Mario Manningham (post concussion) at Philly. Manningham didn't take any reps all week and is listed as doubtful, which pushes Victor Cruz into the starting lineup. Brandon Stokley wasn't involved much last week but he'll be needed here, too.

•*Michael Crabtree (foot) is listed as probable, though he missed partial time all week. It's too soon for me to trust him. Braylon Edwards (knee) won't play.

•*Antonio Gates (foot) missed the full week of practice (though he did some side work Friday) and is questionable for Sunday's home game against Kansas City. Another messy game-time decision.

•*Aaron Hernandez (knee) is looking for a return in Week 5. He won't go Sunday at Buffalo, which makes Rob Gronkowski a dynamite play in all formats.

•*Kellen Winslow (knee) is listed as questionable, but he took all the Friday reps and should go against Atlanta.

•*Brandon Pettigrew (shoulder) did some work Friday after missing the two prior days. He's a risky play in Week 3. Tony Scheffler is also around; both of his 2011 catches have gone for touchdowns.

•*Marcedes Lewis (calf) is probable for the Carolina game, not that you want to get tied to rookie quarterback Blaine Gabbert in his first start.

•*Dallas Clark (foot) didn't practice Friday and is listed as questionable for the Sunday night game against Pittsburgh. I wasn't keen on Clark's value before the injury; now, you might as well bench him, or perhaps cut him outright.
