Interesting proposal essay topics?

I am writing a proposal essay topic and need some suggestions for what to write. Last semester I wrote about the Israel/Palestine conflict, but I have the same teacher this semester and can't re-enter it (not like I would do that anyways...). Are there any fun/interesting ideas? I'd rather stay away from dealing with the U.S. economy since it is a short paper and, well there are A LOT of things wrong.
