Internet Explorer updates?

I have these internet explorer updates coming whenever it has a new updates and news..im running IE7 right now(of course i updated it too coz b4 it was IE6) and have this updates saying that Get IE8..my question is..is it right to do updates?what if i dont want to?what would be the cause if i didn't updated it?help pls!!

there have already been problems reported with IE 8 - you are better off using Mozilla Firefox - much faster and no "freezing up" like IE..you can keep IE 7 and just add Firefox :}
