I've had dreams where I can't breathe since I was little but this latest one really freaked me out. I was with some friends, just chatting, and then one of 3 things happened (this was fuzzy to me when I awoke.) 1. Either I was shot in the chest, 2. in a car wreck, or 3. volunteered for an experiment. Either way, the next thing I knew I was in a hospital about to be operated on. They were going to make my lungs better. Oh yeah, Billy Crystal was a cop, like in Running Scared, but I doubt that matters. So the rest of the dream followed this pattern: I would go unconscious from the gas, then "wake up" (in my dream) and my lungs were a little better every time, so said the doctors. When they made me unconscious I was still able to think but everything was black. The final time that I "woke up" I could FEEL my lungs. In my dream I could feel my chest get heavy and my lungs expanding, etc. Looking back I think I was slowly really waking up and that's the first thing that woke up, if that makes sense. Well, in my dream this freaked me out because I had the unshakable feeling that if they continued with the operation then I wouldn't wake back up. I started breathing heavy trying to move but I couldn't, and I was on the verge of being unconscious from the gas again. The images of the doctors and stuff slowly faded to white and I opened my eyes (by that I mean I finally woke up for real) and just sort of laid in my bed. Then I started breathing heavy, like it took a second for it to hit me, and my roommate told me I had been making weird noises and breathing heavily the whole time. Could this dream mean something? And could all of these dreams about not being able to breathe be sleep apnea, or some other sleeping disorder? Thanks for any help, I'd really appreciate it.
