the cat is about a week old, one dog is 7 years old, a german shepard, the other is a jack russel terrier who is 1 year old, and can be a little protective.
we brought the cat in to show the dogs, and they barked and growled at the poor kitten.
what should we do to make the dogs and kitten get along?

Oh my goodness I had the exact same thing happen to me!
What we did, is we put the kitten into his little box, and we took the lid off. Then we brought one dog in, let him sniff the kitten, and let him get used to the kitten. Take that dog out, then bring in the other dog, let him sniff the kitten. Then let the kitten walk around a bit - he'll get used to his surroundings - then slowly put the dogs on a lead and put them in the same room as the kitten.
However as the dogs seem to bark, just give them a treat whenever they are quiet, and eventually they should get used to the kitten.

Place the kitten into a basket which you take them into the vets with. I don't no what there called. Shut the kitten in a room and let the dogs in. The dogs will more likely sniff the age getting used to the smell of the kitten which will hep them get along together. You may want to sit in the room just in case.

That's how your meant to introduce a kitten to a cat. I don't see why it would be any different.

Hoped I Helped :)
