iphone 4, adding contacts?

I just bought an iphone 4 and started adding some contacts to it. It was fine yesterday but this morning I hit the contacts app and all of them but like 4 or 5 are gone. So i went to the search page and individually typed the names of the ppl I had added and it's in the phone but not in contacts. How do i make their names appear of the contacts page? Everytime I hit the contacts app it brings me to All Contacts or if I hit a button to Groups.

It's easier to just go to the at&t store and have them transfer your contacts from your old phone to your sim card. Then you don't have to spend your whole day transfering contacts and you're guarrenteed to have them all there.
