Am I the only person in Britain who's fed up with what this country is becoming? This nonsense with Jade Goody is typical of what I'm on about.
Let me start by saying I think it's terrible that Jade has cancer and I hope and pray she can pull through -- I wouldn't wish cancer on my worst enemy, and I do wish her well in her struggle with this terrible disease. The thought that her liittle boys will grow up without a mum is truly saddening.
But in reality, many young people die from cancer every year, and they have nowhere near the privilidges Jade Goody has -- none of which she's really earned.
Fame, wealth and respect should be the result of people being rewarded for things like hard work, community leadership, innovation and integrity ... Jade Goody, however, is famous for being a mean, ignorant, ill-educated, boorish, foul-mouthed young woman. Sorry to say it, but that's the truth, like it or not.
While in any civilised society, these characteristics would be shunned, in Britain we EMBRACE them and make celebrities out people who make a point of acting low class.
The fact that Jade and her fiancee -- a man serving a prison sentence for beating a 16-year-old with a golf club -- are getting £1-million in magazine and TV rights to their wedding and that people actually give a toss is ridiculous. Furthermore, it's an embarrassment on us as a nation.
There hasnt been this much fanfare in Britain since the death of Princess Di, and I shiver at the thought of comparing the two.
Even the likes of Gordon Brown and Jack Straw have thown themselves into this silliness by making public comments.
Honestly, what is this country coming to?
Most of you will probably hate me for everything I've just said, so I await your angry mail.
