is bluetooth 1.2 headphones compatible with bluetooth 2.0 devices?

i have a device that has 2.0 bluetooth. but the product i'm buying(headphones), is 1.2 bluetooth.

would they both be compatible or would i have to buy 2. headphones? thanks in advance
