Is having your zipper down a fashion now?

So last night I was going to the mall with four friends when I noticed that they each had their jeans zipper open. One of them even wore button-fly jeans and only buttoned the fastener! And the jeans they were wearing didn't have short zippers either-- the zippers curled under their crotches a little and the cover flap was pretty wide too. I could even see their panties! Is this a new fashion or something?

I've seen in magazines before that a new trend is to not even button your jeans, and kind of roll down the waist a bit. But that's only if the zipper is very short.
I've never seen this before, and it sounds awful.
You should tell your friends that their panties are showing. That's a bit slutty.
If they're trying to start a new trend, it's a bad one.
