I live in a fairly big college town and rarely get to go home. I was however lucky enough to return to my hometown labor day weekend and got to see some friends again. Anyway, one friend in particular found some of that window chalk people use on cars a lot. She jokingly wrote "Go back to Columbia (my college town) HOMO!" I knew it was her, and I knew it was a joke, so I laughed it off and returned back to Columbia. Being a poor college student, I obviously don't have to extra cash to go to the car wash to get rid of said writing. A few days later I get an e-mail from the head of my residence hall saying I was appointed a time for a "probationary hearing". At the hearing, they show me pictures of my car and start accusing me of being "unwelcome and hate-filled to homosexuals" what I didn't get was that the people accusing me were of the homosexual community, so who are they to accuse me? Aren't they just a little biased towards the situation? I ended up getting slapped with resident hall suspension, a 5 page essay on respect, and 30 hrs of community service, because of a harmless little joke. Anyway, my question is simple, is "homo" really that offensive? Do these people not watch TV? Many shows openly bash homosexuality, religion, and many other things all the time, yet I'm the one that gets shit on.
I'm not here to be bashed for my ignorance. I was born and raised in a very small town in Missouri, we had like one gay kid and he constantly joked about it and had no problem with people calling him "homo" or "queer".
