Firstly I am not going down the 'ALL men/ALL women' route, when I refer to either, I obviously mean *some* not ALL. These are just some observations that I'd be interested in the opinions of others.
1. Famous comedians are routinely classed as heartthrobs and fanciable based purely on their talent, regardless of their physical appearance. Speaking for myself I have many a time found a comedian physically attractive based entirely on their wit. This does not seem to apply to female comediennes, who feel the need to be self depreciating about their physical appearance regardless of what they actually look like. I don't know any men who lust after comediennes.
2. In conversation/ lonely heart columns etc men will routinely say they would like their ideal mate to have a good sense of humour.It is often cited as the number one most desirable trait. In my experience this means once a man finds a woman physically attractive they will laugh at any old crap she utters. I cannot recall a single instance where someone I know starts to physically fancy a woman on wit alone. So when they say GSOH do they actually mean 'finds me funny and will laugh at everything I say?'
3. I've observed women I know to be funny defer to men in social situations and let them be the funny ones. These are independent/confident mature women. Suddenly they feel unable to be witty...The ones that are funny are deemed to be 'one of the lads' even if they sit there in a tutu eating cupcakes.
What are your thoughts/experiences?

There are plenty of odd looking comedians both men and women who use their appearance for comic effect, and yes there are 'fit' male and female comedians. My point is that women still fancy the weird looking ones ..just because they are funny. Male humour is 'rated' as a fanciable trait on it's own. That doesn't apply to female comics.
Andreas - I agree mate, you need a woman who not only laughs prettily at your jokes, but knows WHY she's laughing too...*laughing right now*
