Is internet free on the motorola Q 9m?

I did not purchase the $40/month plan but I am still able to acess the internet. Am I being charged for this? Also, Is there a charge for receiving email because I am also able to access my aol account. Finally is there a get-it-now feature and mobile IM. Thanks
