Is it common for aspiring newbie programmers to seek mentors who can teach them?

I am trying to learn actionscript 3 and Flash Game Development, and I realized that if I had a goto guy who had all the knowledge and answers about these 2 subjects, then my learning curve would dramatically increase. And I wouldnt have to spend hours googling for solutions and answers to my bugs and what-have-you-nots.

As with anything in life, you need to ask yourself what's in it for them.

Of course someone would be glad to mentor you for pay, but finding someone to do it for free will be a challenge.

That's how you really learn, if someone gives you the answers for every problem you have you won't learn well because you won't give the answers the importance they deserve.

When you learn you'll see why is that hard to find someone that does that.
