Is it crazy to travel Alone to the UK? Im meeting someone there.?

I am meeting a college friend there in London... And being that it is my first time traveling to another country or even a plane my mother is trying to Convince me not to go. this is my first time traveling alone and it will be a experience for me. But my mother is trying her best to keep me from going. This is a vacation of a lifetime and the guy im meeting is a guy i was dating in college here i the states..
