Is it not possible to have a "movie star" anymore?

I feel like we still have a share of good actors. Marion Cotillard, Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, Johnny Depp, etc. However, I feel like we don't have anybody who is more of celebrity appeal. Where are our modern versions of Monroe, Elivs, John Wayne, James Dean, etc? Or does the current studio system and modern constant surveillance of celebrities not allow for this?

Sadly, it seems not. The 'Glamour' of being on the 'Silver-screen' and all associated traits of representing yourself with class and decency vanished in the 50's and 60's. Now it's been cheapened by 'Celebrities' (I use that term very loosely) Recruiting publicity corporations to 'Self-publcise' themselves. The likes of the Kardashian lot, Hilton, and countless other gutter-dwelling no-body's have found the loophole to exploit themselves to the masses through the flooding and abusing of this kind of marketing. The days of 'snapping a photo' of somebody famous purely because they were 'Famous' are resigned well and truly to the history books now. :(
