is it ok to eat steak that smells funny?

today is the 27th of August and this steak my mum bought doesnt need using til the 12th of september, but it absoutly reeks! it smells like someones done a thousand farts and shut all the doors, no joke.
It looks fine but I dont want to eat it but my dad thinks its fine. he sed the smells comes from some preservitive they put it in that makes it smell, is that true and is it ok to eat?

If you have a steak with a expiry date being the 12th Sept, then it can't be good beef. If something was added to it to preserve it for that long, you don't wanna be eating it. Steak normally has a date stamped on it when it was wrapped and you should eat it within 3 days of purchasing it. I personally wouldn't eat it.......yuck..!!

Personally I wouldn't eat it. I never eat food if it smells off no matter what the use by date. If food is frozen, defrosted and frozen again it can be off for example. Also fresh meat shouldn't contain any preservatives (they are not a good thing anyway.) Ask to have something else and even make it yourself, grilled cheese sandwich, scrabbled eggs or baked beans on toast would be better. If you are unsure then you won't enjoy the meal anyway.
