Is it OK to wash dish towels this way?

I am a believer in the idea that dish towels should not be washed with other laundry, but I don't have enough kitchen towels or other similar items to make a full load out of them. My idea is to throw all of my dish towels into a sink full of hot, soapy water (as if I were washing dishes) and to let them soak for about an hour or so, then lay them out to dry. Would this be enough to clean/sanitize them?
