Is it okay to chat with my friend who's a girl?

I've known this girl for 4 years. We are friends, nothing more. I've also known her boyfriend for just as long. Her boyfriend and I are ex-roommates. You could say me and him are "mild" friends. I haven't talked to him in months. Last year, me and her had many classes together, and we saw each other several times a week, we became really good friends.

Now, this past summer, she has graduated and lives far away. Would it be innapropriate to talk to her just to catch up. AGAIN, we are friends.
 
No it would not be inappropriate to contact her and catch up, that is totally cool.

That sounds totally okay and normal. You guys are friends, if you and her boyfriend are "mild" friends then he should have a problem either, it's innocent :)
 
No not at all because it seems as if her boyfriend has been good with you guys talking and not getting jealous
