printed on it or the webpage? somebody said that if the photographer put it out there specifically for the public domain then it's okay...how would you know that?...I am making a travel brochure and there are certain pictures that a lot of websites have...and also how can you track the photographer when it isn't indicated?

First off, you would need to know the title of the picture. If you don't know what it is, try right clicking the image and clicking save target as or save as depending on your browser. A window comes up asking you where to save it, but the filename is often the image's title too. You then can search using google, yahoo, www, etc for the photo. One site is bound to tell you who the photographer is. Once you know the photographers name you can maybe try to contact them, or look on the websites of local newspapers and brocures to see if the photographer works for them.
