Is it okay to use wikipedia for essays?

A teacher told me you shouldn't really. But i find it reliable, straight forward, and thorough. So why not?

The teacher might have checked Wikipedia and so realize you have merely copied your essay rather than creating it yourself

i agree with you. when it comes to serious matters, such as politics or religion, etc... anything i read on wikipedia is on other sites as well.

i'll admit, i have come across some falsely edited articles, but they're usually about celebrities and such.

i used it for my essays, and got decent grades too. =)
