Is it possible to switch to a smartphone on Verizon in the middle of a contract?

I've had my phone for about a year and a half. So that means I most likely have a two-year contract (I can't really remember). For my birthday, I'm hoping to get an iPhone. My question is, can I switch to the iPhone in the middle of my contract? I'd still be with Verizon of course. Thanks.
 
yeah but there gonna make you pay full retail price for the phone if your not due for an upgrade but if i rember correctly u get and upgrade every 18 months. the thing is if you upgrade or "switch" your gonna have to exstend your contract
